When the first Celtic people began to arrive in Ireland, they found a country that had been occupied long before their time. Those older people left huge stone monuments, which impressed the Celts. The oldest stories still told today in Ireland are the stories of the meetings between these older people and the newcomers, the Celts. You will hear some of these stories tonight.
Lorcan Flynn is a traditional Irish storyteller. The stories told to him by his parents, aunts, uncles and family friends had been learned from their own parents in a line stretching back to the dawn of Irish history. The storytelling tradition still survives in Ireland. People still like to gather round an open fire and listen to the tales of long ago. A kind of magic is created and for a little while it's easy to forget the world outside the friendly circle. He tells his stories in easy English. Come along and have a relaxing and an enjoyable evening.
